Staying Grounded: Energetic Boundaries for Therapists

Live on Zoom

Therapy asks us to be deeply present with our clients—to listen, attune, and stay open to intense emotional experiences—without taking on what belongs to them. For therapists, learning how to remain connected while maintaining a clear sense of self is an essential part of sustainable clinical practice.

Led by Jessica Pumpa, APCC #22396, supervised by Dr. Rachel Horodezky, PsyD #25159, this experiential workshop explores simple energy-based and embodied practices for creating a grounded therapeutic space, strengthening boundaries in real time, and intentionally separating and resetting after sessions.

Participants will explore practical rituals and techniques that can be used before, during, and after clinical work to support presence without over-identification. Rather than becoming closed off or emotionally distant, therapists will learn ways to remain compassionate and available while maintaining a stronger awareness of what belongs to themselves and what belongs to the client.

Participants will:

  • Explore practices for grounding and centering before sessions

  • Learn to recognize when they may be absorbing or carrying a client’s emotional experience

  • Practice maintaining a clear sense of self during emotionally intense sessions

  • Strengthen energetic and embodied boundaries without becoming disconnected

  • Learn simple rituals for separating, clearing, and resetting between clients

  • Develop practices that support therapist sustainability and emotional well-being

This workshop invites therapists to consider boundaries not as walls, but as practices that allow us to remain deeply present, open, and connected while staying rooted in ourselves.
